April 2025 Announcements

Happy April Curlfriend,

Let's get straight to it. The world is a cray cray place right now but I am hopeful and I'm going to continue to stay that way. You are more than welcome to join me.

Nothing that is happening is fundamentally new. We've just forgotten. Change is often messy and uncomfortable. I'm not saying I agree with our current administrations techniques but I've made peace with the fact that I largely don't know how that shit works, and neither do you. Obviously none of us knew how it worked otherwise we wouldn't be so shocked. I really can't control anything happening in DC politics so I am choosing to focus on what I can do something about. The WA beauty industry.

Have you done what you can do?

As of this morning our little bill has been passed through for a second reading with no resistance. You can watch the hearing from the 21st here.

This bill will require cosmetology schools to include ciriculla specifically on the care of textured hair including locs and braids.

If you have not already please take a moment to submit testimony to our legislators on this topic. This is one of the easiest ways you can say YES. This is another form of voting. This is a way of using your voice.

What happens next?

I don't honestly know. LMAO. I told you I don't know how this stuff works and look I just submitted my taxes to my CPA on Friday. I don't have time to learn Civics right now. But I do understand this info graphic outlining what needs to happen for this to become law.

I know that the more noise that gets made the more likely something will be done about it.

This is a big deal because of WA demographics 68% white and only 4% black.

This new bill along with the Crown Act that WA put into law a few years ago makes me lean forward and say "hmmm that's interesting" If I had a beard I'd stroke it. Positive changes are being made but you have to sort through the noise. I don't count these legal changes as a win for black people but a win for people.

Protect Your Peace

I am excited about the positive things that are happening right now even though you may have to squint to see them. Take some time to notice those things. Harmony has maintained a B in all her classes this school year.

Speaking of noticing, have you ever taken into account how most of the people discussing hair on the internet are not hairstylists? IJS.

Anyhoo if you haven't been in for a while I'm full service now! Curls, Facials and Pedicures. There are a few spa packages on the menu you may want to check out if you're looking to do a little treat yo' self. I'm not doing shellac on toes. Don't ask, it's ok if you go somewhere else all money is not good money.

I hope you're well and you'll be in for a visit soon. Let me know if you've submitted testimony and don't forget to shop the store for your self care products!
