In this article we are going to cover all the styling services that I offer. If it is not here or on my menu then the answer is no kindly. I do not offer that service and that is why it is not on my menu.
I offer basic curl friendly styles like the natural curl set and the twist set. If you are looking for intricate braid styles and extensions please see my friend and coworker Niiaja Bianca. She is a great braider, not too tight and very friendly. She also is happy to see children. We work together to make sure you've got what you need to feel beautiful so don't worry it's not weird and I won't be offended.
Styling appointments are a time sensitive service and your hair should be relatively detangled when you arrive. When scheduling please take a look at the time duration to know about how long it will take. If you have had braids, please give a courtesy rinse and comb through to remove excess dirt and shed hair. It's your dirt, if you don't want to touch it what make you think I do? Be real.
Extra Detangling Time
I typically spend about 20-30 minutes at the shampoo bowl to thoroughly cleanse your scalp and finger detangle your hair. If I must spend more than 30 minutes detangling there will be a $35 charge for the extra time. You may also choose to schedule yourself for the extra time if you know you will need it.
Bang Trims
Are fee. But you must already have bangs. Also bang trims are just your bangs. If it has been six months since your last haircut your bang trim does not now include your layers. You need to schedule a haircut and we will clean your bangs up then.
The Natural Curl Wet Set or Wash & Go (WAG)
I feel like a well defined WAG is a gold star for achievement in the curly world. At The CurlSpa this is both a style option as well as a stand alone service. During your appointment I am happy to coach you through the process of getting max volume with minimum frizz. When you come for a visit this is the standard style option.
Wet Twist Sets
This includes the wash and condition you may add a scalp or hydrating treatment to the appointment if you wish. They are under hair treatments.
I do flat or loose twists or a combination of the two to create a style that you can wear with confidence as well as transition into a twist out. The hair is twisted down from wet, allowing for more shrinkage and a tighter twist out.
Wash & Blow Dry
Hair is thoroughly cleansed and detangled then blow dried straight using a blow comb or a paddle brush. Hair is left fluffy. I do not own a flat iron. This is a great option if you simply do not want to do it all.
Add partings | Extra Styling Time | 18+ Twists
Add this to your appointment and I will section your hair so you or someone else can braid it down. Or if your hair is exceptionally thick or exceptionally long and you know its going to take longer than the time listed. This typically happens with roller sets. Or you want small twists.
Stretched Twist Sets
After cleansing and conditioning the hair is blowdried to stretch it out. The hair is then twisted down, flat, loose or a combination using Loma Volumizing Foam to instigate a controlled amount of shrinkage and give hold with shine. This process yields a "longer" look and the twist out is more volumonous as well. This style can be worn for up to 3 weeks then transitioned into a "twist out". This is how I do my own hair.
Wash & Roller Set
After the hair is cleansed and conditioned it is set using Loma Volumizing Foam and velcro rollers. These rollers have little teeth all around them so they can help keep the hair smooth and in place as it dries.
- Things to keep in mind with a roller set are:
Hair length - the longer the hair, the more times it must go around the roller and the longer it will take to dry. You may need to book extra styling time if your hair is longer.
Tighter + coarser hair may not dry as smooth as looser + finer hair even with the velcro rollers.
