This client has 3 children, one grown and two younger plus two small grandchildren. She is helping to raise her grandchildren not raising them on her own but still that's a lot of small people. This is important for context. I build regimes to fit the lifestyle of the client. With that many small people who has the bandwith for hair?
She came in very honest. She hasn't had a haircut since she last chopped it all off about five years ago. She said "I like my hair, but I'm tired. I'm not a high maintenance woman. I don't want to do my hair all the time but I want to look cute"
We agreed that what she is looking for is a day to day style that she can transition if she chooses. Stay ready so she don't have to get ready type of situation.
The WAG is only good for about three days, then she's back in a bun or you're manipulating her again. The WAG is a high manipulation style and with tighter curls this can be detrimental because of he amount of moisture the hair is constantlly losing then the added manipulation to already fragile ends doesn't help.
She had a good handle on the WAG so I suggested for today we go ahead and stretch it to trim it and put it in a twist set. This way she gets the trim she desperately needs and she gets to see how the set and the out make her feel.
I suggested we trim it stretched since she was thinking about trying the twist set as her go to style. Also since it's been so long since her last trim I can give her a more even all over trim and progressively make it the shape she wants.
While she wears the twists she can watch videos of how to recreate this twist technique at home and practice on her daughter (if she lets her 😜). I also showed her how to tie a scarf on it and leave her bangs hanging out the front so she can live that wrap life too.
Stretching the hair smoothes the cuticle and then twisting it reintroduces moisture as well as keep that moisture inside the twist. The twists may look dusty in a couple weeks, that's ok, open them up and see. 🥳
The twists in the front are smaller so she can get jazzy with them when she wears her scarf. But I'm not about that one hundred billion twist life. Nope she's got about eleven twists in her head outside of her bangs.
Flat twists, I find offer more definition root to ends than loose twists do. Loose twists are great in areas where you want more volume. I rolled the ends into little rosettes to give her a half up half down look she's comfortable wearing as a style.
She can wear these twists for at least a week AT LEAST. VERY LEAST. I explained that keeping the hair bound and covered helps to keep it clean. She works out so we will see how she likes it and what little tweaks she makes to the regime so that it fits her lifestyle.
