Happy New Year Curlfriend!
Self care is defined as the process of establishing behaviors (habits) to ensure holistic well-being, promote health and actively manage illness when it occurs.
Self-care activities can range from physical activities such as exercising and eating healthy, to mental activities such as reading a book or practicing mindfulness, to spiritual or social activities such as praying or catching lunch with a friend. Self-care can help you manage stress, lower your risk of illness, and increase your energy.
PNW Self Care Club
We are here to learn how to mind our literal business and help others feel safe and confident doing the same. To do that though, we have to understand what that even means cause it sounds funny.
You are your first order of business and you need to understand you to better empathize with others. The better you are at caring for yourself the easier it is to help others because you have it to give. When you get up and your needs are met, your cup is full you are able to water others without totally depleting yourself.
My goal is to inspire you to:
- Develop your own standard of beauty with you as the center and
- Look at your REAL LIFE and create a regime (habits) that supports your lifestyle by
- Implementing small sustainable changes
- Q1 | Physical Self Care
During this first part of the year we will talk about your integumentary system what it is and how to prioritize it's care properly. We will bust myths and illuminate facts so you can feel at ease.
- January - Skin
- February - Hair
- March - Nails
Each quarter we will have a different focus
- Q2 | Mental Self Care
- Q3 | Financial Self Care
- Q4 | Social Self Care
These topics overlap if by no other means than the stress that they can cause. Chronic stress plays a huge role in our health and our health impacts our appearance. Learning how to manage chronic stress as well as recognizing why you are experiencing heightened amounts is not easy. Let's do it together!
We'll get started here...
In the video interview below Issa Rae presents as such a human being and talks about all the things on our self care club schedule. She talks about feeling beautiful, when she lost that feeling and when it came back. I love that Brooke opens up the interview talking about how beautiful Issa's skin looks. AND IT DOES. This woman only takes off 1 day a week and still looks like this. Issa talks about having her skin tags removed (I can't even imagine!) and I felt every word. This interview feels a lot like our visits together so I'm interested in hearing your thoughts about it, let me know what you think in the comments below or even better answer Brooke's final question. This will be my question of the year!
I brought the facial table back into the studio last year so here are some of the services that I'm now able to offer in addition to your regular curly cuts, custom colors and brow waxes.
A fun service that spreads and smooths the eyebrow hairs. The hairs are styled and repositioned on the face to to reveal individual hairs that otherwise would lay on top of one another, clump or curl. Nothing WRONG with having curly eyebrows but it is fun to try this look.
Maintenance facials focus on relaxation, skin that is relatively uneventful and skin that is taking a break from treatment facials. Appointments are made by time, 30min, 60min or 90min. More time equals more masks, hot towels, products and massage. Products appropriate for your skin are chosen after a thorough cleanse and skin analysis. A maintenance facial once a month is a yes please!
Packages include 2-3 services. These services are a framework for your ideal spa day. You are able to add more services like a brow lamination or bikini wax if you want. This is done during the online scheduling process NOT at your appointment.
You may see more new services on the menu that aren't mentioned here....yet. That's not a mistake, yes you can book those now if you want. Just be sure to read the more info for clarity before you book.
Bath & Body Products
This category is going to grow so for now I chose just a few things that I like to use on my self care day that I thought you'd enjoy too.
Jojoba Oil: This oil closest mimics our sebum's (skin oil secretion) natural molecular size and structure. I like to use it to remove my makeup and as a night time "moisturizer". This jojoba oil is certified organic and unrefined so it is golden in color. The oil comes in a plastic amber colored 2oz bottle and is unscented. More sizes will be available in the future.
Bath Bombs: These are such a nice bonus to a bath at the end of a long week. I chose two of my favorite scents to start with, lavender for relaxation and lemongrass to get the good vibes flowing.
You can order all of your hair and body products from right here and have them shipped directly to you!
