Welcome Curlfriend,

In this little lesson we are going to perform a bleach and tone using foils.

These are the tools/supplies I'm going to be using.

My bleach formula is B+30 vol with Olaplex

I did graduate my bleach formula to 40 vol in the last quadrant

I tear the pre torn foils in half to make better use of it. Her hair is shorter so I can use shorter foils

The double prong clips help keep sections tidy and foils neatly out of the way..

We colored this client's hair a few weeks ago but she wants a bit more pizzaz. She in a conservative industry so we are trying to tip toe on that line. Her hair is fully shrunken when she arrives but that’s no problem 😉.

Wet the hair down to introduce moisture and make the hair pliable.

Blow dry to stretch this will help with sectioning and getting the foils in as quickly as possible. You don’t want to be wrestling with tangles while your product oxidizes. I use the blow pick that came with my dryer. It's easier and faster than trying to use a paddle brush on this length.

Be sure to secure the hair into four sections. I got all the hair stretched enough so I could secure each section with a large clip. Next I focussed on getting the first section I was going to foil fully dry and stretched. I blow dried each section again just prior to putting the foils in that section.

  • vertical foils in back two quads using 1/4” sections | | |

I like to put horizontal = foils at the top of my verticals as a buffer if the hair is fine or thin I will do a weave, if not then I just do very thin slices.

  • 1/2” subsections/leave out
  • diagonal forward \ on sides
  • pivot sections to become
  • horizontal on top =

I lifted her to about a level 8G, 7G in front. You can see where I put my first two foils in the middle, it's lighter and the last foils went in front last. To keep it looking as natural as RR can coming from the scalp I keep it a bit darker around the face and I do not foil up to the hair line. I leave it out so that it creates the right amount of contrast around the hairline and grow out is nearly non existent. This is what get them commited to the color lifestyle. They don't really gotta be committed to the maintenance. Elumen also ages VERY well so the clients are never unsatisfied with their color at any stage.

We gave her haircut a clean up then toned with Elumen rr@all 80g + vv@all 65g. I like elumen's applicator bottles they have a top that looks a lot like a blow pick. It's great for getting the color evenly distributed throughout all the little kinks and. curls.

Total time: 3.5 Hours
